On August 19, 1933, an international athletics (track & field) meet was held between Germany and Great Britain in London. In the men’s long jump event, Luz Long placed second with a jump of 7.295 meters and was awarded this second place winner’s medal made of sterling silver. Here are the details.

Obverse:  Raised relief image of a winged athlete blowing a horn and raising a laurel branch overhead; scroll banners reading “Great Britain” and “Germany” with their national emblems.

Reverse:  Wreath of laurels surrounding “Long Jump 2nd L.Long London 1933); maker and materials hallmarks at bottom.
