Addendum: Bat has been graded GU 10 by PSA/DNA (paperwork pending).

The only thing better than a game-used Albert Pujols bat is a record-setting Albert Pujols bat, and this is a perfect example of the latter. The longtime St. Louis Cardinals first baseman swung this bat during the April 29, 2006, game against the visiting Washington Nationals. The game was locked in a 1-1 pitcher’s duel in the bottom of the 8th when Pujols hit an opposite-field shot off Nats reliever Jon Rauch that landed in the Cards' bullpen in deep right. The solo home run proved to be the game-winner, and for Pujols it was his 14th in the month of April to break the previous MLB record. The experts at Resolution Photomatching have conclusively matched this bat to that April record-setting homer (career No. 215). Sir Albert himself has signed a letter to confirm it as “the” bat for good measure.

The 34.5”, 32.1 oz. Sam Bat professional model ‘JB1(S) SG1’ maple bat is un-cracked and exhibits outstanding game use. Many ball marks, cleat imprints, and ink transfers are on the barrel and the impression of a weighted batting donut is visible. A moderate coat of pine tar is on the handle and his number (5) has been handwritten on the knob in black marker. Written in black pen on the cupped barrel end are the specs and other details by the Canadian bat manufacturer. The future Hall of Famer has signed the barrel in bold black marker with his No. “5” inscribed.

“The Machine” batted .331 and blasted a career-best 49 homers in 2006, with 137 RBI to boot. He finished second in the N.L. MVP voting despite leading the league in slugging and OPS, but did take home his first Gold Glove that season. After joining the 3,000 Hit Club this season and moving into 6th on the all-time home run list, Sir Albert is making a case not just as a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer but one of the greatest right-handed hitters ever.

The bat is accompanied by LOA's from Pujols (on Pujols Family Foundation letterhead), Resolution Photomatching and bat expert John Taube of PSA/DNA who has graded it a perfect GU 10. Full LOA from PSA/DNA for the autograph.
