In 1984, UNC superstar Michael Jordan was one of the top players on the U.S. Men’s Olympic basketball Team. In that year’s Summer Games, which were held in Los Angeles, the 21-year-old, baby-faced Jordan led Team USA in scoring by averaging 17.1 points per game. But prior to the actual Olympics, Joran first had to make the team.
This lot features a unique, multi-signed Eastern Air Lines boarding pass that’s been autographed on the reverse by five of the team’s hopeful members who were all headed to Indianapolis to attend the tryouts. The flight originated in Atlanta and landed in Indy. The date of the flight was April 16, 1984. The top signature belongs to Michael Jordan, but the remaining four players were no slouches either: the late Lorenzo Charles, he of 1983 NC State Wolfpack national title fame; UNC teammate Same “Big Smooth” Perkins; Duke star Johnny Dawkins, 1986 NCAA Player of the Year; and Georgia standout Vern Fleming. Each of the signatures is legible and all were penned in black ink. Charles and Fleming did
not make team. Dawkins was named an
alternate. Only MJ and Perkins made the team from this group.
