Every April 15th, all baseball celebrates Jackie Robinson and his pioneering role in the integration of the game. Across both leagues, every player wears Jackie’s immortal number 42 on his back, a moving tribute to the man who not only made baseball complete, but also paved the way for the Civil Rights Movement. This jersey with the one-game only number “42” was worn by Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen during the 2013 celebration on Jackie Robinson Day. The St. Louis Louis Cardinals beat Pittsburgh 10-6 that day at PNC Park as McCutch went 1-5 with an RBI double and run scored.
The home white jersey has “PIRATES” across the chest and Robinson’s number “42” below in gold and black tackle twill. The sleeves and collar ate trimmed in gold and black piping and a Majestic size 42 label in the lower left front tail. A white strip tag with “22” chain stitched in black is sewn inside the front placket. A Pirate mascot logo patch is on the left sleeve and the back has Robinson’s number “42” in gold and black tackle twill on which MLB hologram has been affixed. The jersey shows very light pine tar and turf marks on the front and upper back and some perspiration staining in the collar area. A great one-day only jersey celebrating the man who integrated the game.
