The 2018 FIFA World Cup hosted by Russia was the first held in the eastern European region. Iceland and Panama made their World Cup debuts among the 32-team field. Germany, the defending champs, was eliminated in group play. The hosts came very close to making the final four, losing to Croatia on penalties in the quarterfinals. France, Belgium and England joined the former Yugoslavian nation in the Semifinals. The stars of the 2018 World Cup were England striker Harry Kane (Golden Boot), Luka Modric (Golden Ball), Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois (Golden Glove) and 19-year-old French sensation Kylian Mbappe. Ultimately, France and Croatia advanced to the Finals in Moscow where the French won an exciting 4-2 match to claim their second World Cup title. In the 3rd Place match, Belgium shut out England 2-0 to take their first winner’s medal of any kind at the world’s biggest sporting event.

This offered 2018 FIFA World Cup Third Place bronze winner's medal was awarded to a member of the Belgium National Team. No more than 50 official winner’s medals were issued by FIFA to members of the top three finishing teams. The obverse features "2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA" over a raised relief of the classic Jules Rimet FIFA World Cup trophy. The reverse has "3rd PLACE” and “FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA 2018” in raised lettering, with a raised relief of the official 2018 World Cup Russia emblem at center. Three tiny "TM" trademark symbols are hallmarked; two in the front and one on the back. Only winner's medals were designed with a lovely loop and blue silk FIFA-logoed ribbon to wear them around the neck. The other key differences from participation medals were their significantly larger size and the team's order of finish (in this case, third place) embossed on the reverse. Made of pure bronze, the attractive medal measures 60 mm in diameter, around 4 mm thick, and weighs 90 grams including the ribbon. It presents in exceptional condition and the all-original ribbon shows very light wear. It comes in its original black presentation case (7x7x1.5") emblazoned with a metallic, coin-shaped 2018 World Cup Russia logo on top. (Note: the closing latch no longer fastens.)
