Before he was the star quarterback for USC, Matt Barkley was a highly-touted recruit at Mater Dei High School down the I-5 in Orange County. Here is Barkley's white No. 5 Mater Dei Monarchs 2008 game-worn jersey from his senior year. Matt was the first freshman quarterback to start at Mater Dei since Todd Marinovich. The high school as a long history of being a breeding ground for USC quarterbacks, having also produced Heisman winners John Huarte and Matt Leinart. Barkley would finish his high school career as Orange County's all-time passing yardage leader.

The white mesh/spandex Nike jersey with red & white striped shoulders has a red "MD" emblem on the V-neck collar and a larger version on both red-cuffed sleeves. "MONARCHS" just below the neck, with a black Nike swoosh to the left and the 1st Marine Division Guadalcanal patch to the left. His #5 is on the front and back with "BARKLEY" on the back, all in red screen-printed numbers and letters. No tagging is present. A laundry tag on the inside has been cut off. Overall, the jersey shows excellent wear, with blue paint transfers, contact marks and heavy pilling and fraying. A rare find in the hobby indeed!

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
