2004 Playoff "Prime Cuts" insert cards are a remarkable series of cards that feature pieces of game-used bats, swatches of jerseys and/or pants, and autographs, either alone or in any combination. All were limited in their distribution and each card bears a special limitation number stamped in gold on the reverse. Presented here is one of the finest “1 of 1” cards produced in this series.
This is a 2004 Playoff Prime Cuts Timeline Material Signature Prime #3 Lou Gehrig card featuring not only a bold autograph of the “Iron Horse” but also a fabric swatch from a pair of his game used pants. Interestingly, the swatch is no ordinary fabric sample, but is actually a large portion of the Spalding manufacturer’s tag from inside the waistband. Information provided from the card manufacturer tells us that the tag swatch comes from a pair of pants worn by Gehrig in 1938. The back of the card features the “1/1” designation in gold. Like all 2004 Playoff "Prime Cuts" insert cards this example has been encapsulated by Beckett as part of the manufacturer's distribution process and comes is a presentation box.
