“The Captain,” also known as Derek Jeter, was the thriving force behind five New York Yankees World Series championship teams. A career .311 batter, Jeter was as steady in the field as he was in the plate. At the time of his retirement in 2014, he had bested Lou Gehrig’s all-time team hits record and finished with an astounding 3,465 to his credit.
This lot features a limited edition (7/22) Derek Jeter autographed 2001 New York Yankees game-issued cap. As you may recall, 2001 was the fateful year in which the 9/11 tragedy took place and subsequently the baseball season was dedicated to the American lives lost on that horrific day in our nation’s history. The Yankees, led by Jeter, battled all the way back to the World Series that year – seeking their fifth title in six years – but fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks in an exciting seven-game battle. The official MLB Authentic Collection New Era Cap (size 7 ¼ ) is sporting the tradition Yankees “NY” symbol embroidered in white on the front with a special red, white and blue U.S. flag embroidered on the left side. The official MLB red, white and blue embroidered logo is situated on the back of the cap. The inside bill of the cap is marked “2” (Jeter’s uniform number) in black marker and is also marked “7/22” in fine point blue marker. Jeter signed the bill of the cap in silver maker.
