A great action shot featuring the great Michael Jordan in his second tenure with the Bulls. The setting is NBA opening night, Halloween, 1997 in Boston’s Fleet Center. Michael Jordan scored 30 points against the Celtics but it was not enough as Boston wins, 92-85.
The game was the first opportunity to see much-heralded Celtics rookie Ron Mercer in action. In this photo taken that night, Jordan, wearing his famous “23” Bulls jersey, pauses in mid court to gaze down at Mercer, sizing up the newcomer. Mercer would score 11 points in the game to start his 8-year NBA career.
The front of this historic photo shows overall toning from age and some staining throughout. The edges show light wear, and the corners exhibit slight rounding and creasing. The reverse has Boston Herald stamping along with a 10-31-97 caption form. There is light toning and stains throughout, and a red sticker printed with “22” affixed.
