In 1996 the New York Yankees were returning to prominence. After winning the American League East flag with a 92-70 record, they went on to beat the Texas Rangers (3 games to 1) and Baltimore Orioles (4-1) in the A.L. playoffs. Their season culminated with a World Series victory over the N.L. Champion Atlanta Braves in six games. The Yankees offense was impressive with five players batting better than .300 for the season: Mariano Duncan (.340), Derek Jeter (.314), Wade Boggs (.311), Bernie Williams (.305), and Paul O’Neill (.302). Starting left-hander Andy Pettitte, meanwhile, won 21 games, while closer John Wetteland racked up 43 saves.

Offered here is a 1996 New York Yankees World Series Champions 10K gold ring that was made for then-New York State Senator Al D’Amato. He served New York in the U.S. Senate from 1981 to ’99. The face of the beautifully crafted ring features nearly two dozen small round diamonds that are designed to form the Yankees’ “NY” logo, which sits atop a large blue stone. The stone is surrounded by raised relief lettering that reads” “WORLD 1996 CHAMPIONS.” The left shank includes “D’AMATO” with the words “COURAGE” and “HEART” on banners floating above a raised depiction of the World Series Trophy. On the opposite shank is an image of the Yankee Stadium façade above the team’s iconic hat-on-bat logo. The word “TRADITION” appears at the bottom of the shank. Inside the band is stamped "LGB 10K." The size 9 Balfour ring weighs 38 grams and comes in essentially mint condition with very little sign of wear.
