A terrific image of Ken Griffey, Jr. as he answers questions from the press. The lighting creates nice contrast and make the colors of Junior’s Mariners uniform pop. This photo dates to 1994, the strike-shortened season in which Griffey led the AL in homers. In the Mariners first 65 games he hit 30 home runs and had four games with two or more homers. This is an especially significant portrait of Junior due to the fact that at this time most news photographers were making the switch to digital. This makes Type 1 photos from this era a rarity and prints made from digital files are classified as a Type III. The image has been printed to the edges and there is some edge wear visible, though none which affect the color image of Griffey. The reverse has the Fujicolor hallmarks along with “Ken Griffey Jr.” and 1994 catalog numbers in handwritten in ballpoint. The photograph measures 4” x 6” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
