In 1992, the U.S. Men’s Olympic basketball team won the gold medal in dominating fashion at the Barcelona Summer Games. Coached by the late Chuck Daly and called the "Dream Team," the superstar roundball players represented the first American Olympic squad to feature active professional NBA players and proved to be an unstoppable force. The lone amateur player was Duke University’s Christian Laettner, who was named college basketball’s Player of the Year in ‘92. They destroyed every opponent they played by an average of almost 44 points per game. They defeated Croatia in the gold-medal-winning championship game by the score of 117-85, close by their standards, but blew out earlier opponents by the following margins: Angola (68 points); Croatia (the first time, 33); Germany (43); Brazil (44); Spain (41); Puerto Rico (38); and Lithuania (51).

This lot features a Spalding-branded NBA basketball that’s been signed by all 12 members of the team. Every player signed the basketball with a black marker: Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Chris Mullin, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, and the aforementioned Laettner. All signatures are strong with the exception of both Mullin and Ewing; their scrawls are slightly faded. Still a very significant piece of sports memorabilia from one of the greatest teams ever assembled. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
