In 1992, the U.S. Men’s basketball team captured the gold medal in
dominating fashion at the Barcelona Summer Olympic Games. Coached by the
late Chuck Daly and dubbed the "Dream Team," they represented the first
American Olympic squad to feature active professional NBA players and
proved to be unstoppable. They crushed each opponent they played by an
average of almost 44 points per game on their way to capturing the gold
medal. They defeated Croatia in the championship game by the score of
117-85, close by their standards, but blew out earlier opponents by the
following margins: Angola (68 points); Croatia (the first time, 33);
Germany (43); Brazil (44); Spain (41); Puerto Rico (38); and Lithuania
(51).
Presented here is a pair of multi-autographed roster sheets from USA's July 29th game against Germany in which the Dream Team dominated 111-68. Larry Bird led the U.S. with 19 points, Karl Malone had 18 and Michael Jordan chipped in with 15 points and 12 assists. USA had an amazing 24 steals. Germany was led by 3-time NBA All-Star Detlef Schrempf who notched 15 in the loss.
One of the black and white 8.5x11 white roster sheets has 11 signatures including: Coach Daly, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, John Stockton, David Robinson (with one of his "Matt 6:33" bible verse inscriptions), Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley (at least, we think so), Christian Laettner and German player Hans Jurgen. The second sheet (paper in better condition) has the autographs of Michael Jordan and David Robinson (this time "John 3:3-5"). These were obtained by our consignor who attended the game in Barcelona. Super hard to find these with Dream Team member signatures.
