For more than a decade Kevin McHale played alongside fellow Basketball Hall of Famers Larry Bird and Robert Parish of the Boston Celtics to form one of the greatest frontlines in NBA history. Standing 6’ 10” tall and weighing 225 pounds, McHale's nearly unstoppable assortment of low post moves helped to revolutionize pivot play and helped lead Boston and his teammates to three NBA championships (1981, ’84 and ’86).
This lot features McHale’s game used and signed Boston Celtics road jersey that he donned during his final campaign with the C’s in 1992-93. The green mesh jersey reads "CELTICS" across the front in white tackle twill, the similar fashion used for his uniform number “32” on the front and back. His last name appears across the back in white tackle twill sewn directly onto the jersey. The arms and collar are sporting Boston’s iconic white and green elastic trim. The front left tail includes proper Champion manufacturer’s tagging (size “46”), complete with washing instructions, adjacent to the “1992-93 Designed and Tailored Exclusively for BOSTON CELTICS” tag with its “BODY LENGTH +3” callout. McHale signed the number “3” on the front of the jersey in fiber-tip black marker. With respect to its characteristics and moderate game use, MEARS has graded the jersey A8.
What’s significant about this jersey beyond being worn by McHale in his final season is the black memorial armband that is sewn onto the left shoulder that was worn by the Celtics that season in memory of the team's longtime team broadcaster, Johnny Most, who passed away on January 3, 1993.
Includes Letter of Opinion from MEARS (Grade A8). LOA from JSA for autograph. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
