A great action shot that captures a young Shaquille O'Neal just before he broke into the NBA. This photo was taken during the LSU-Connecticut game on March 14, 1991. Shaq would finish the season as the NCAA College Basketball Player of the Year as well as being named college player of the year by AP and UPI. Within a year of this photo, O’Neil was the 1st overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft.
The dramatic image captures Shaq clinging to the basket, watching as the ball he just sank spins towards the boards below. These were two of Shaq's 27 points that day in the NCAA tournament clash against UCONN.
The front of the Type 1 image shows light edge wear. The caption slug is printed to the right of the photo and details all the action captured in the image. The reverse has a clipping of the printed photo with a “May 14, 1992” stamp. There are various notations in blue pencil including the misspelled nickname “Shag.”
The photo has been encapsulated and graded an Authentic Type 1 by PSA.
