For all the hoopla that Orel Hershiser's 1988 Cy Young season got, his 1989 campaign was just as dominant statistically. All he needed was a little more luck on batted balls and some run support from the Dodgers lineup, and that 15-15 record could have looked very similar to his 23-8 mark in '88. (That record 59 consecutive scoreless innings streak ain't bad though.) Presented here is Orel's game worn road jersey his 1989 season in L.A. in which the right-handed ace somehow led the National League in losses despite a miniscule 2.31 ERA.
The gray knit No. 55 gamer is properly tagged by Rawlings (size 44, "Set 1 1989" behind the collar with all-original numbers and letters. There is evident wear in the form of perspiration stains around the neck and some lightly scattered dirt/soiling marks on the body of the button-down shirt. A wonderful representation of a three-time All-Star, Gold Glover, 200-game winner and Dodger legend who deserves a spot in Cooperstown (perhaps through the Veteran's Committee someday).
