ADDENDUM: LATE ADDITION TO AUCTION; NOT IN CATALOG.

The Oakland Athletics were the team to beat in the American League in the late 1980's and early 1990's. With Dave Stewart and Dennis Eckersley intimidating opposing batters on the mound, "Bash Brothers" Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco sending bombs into the bleachers, and Rickey Henderson causing havoc on the bases, this group was a force to be reckoned with. The A's won their only World Series of this era in 1989. Promoted as the "Battle of the Bay" against their neighbors over the bridge, the San Francisco Giants, the Fall Classic became somewhat of an afterthought following the deadly Loma Prieta earthquake that struck the Bay Area on Oct. 17, 1989, at the start of Game 2. The A's went on to sweep the Giants in what would later be known as "The Earthquake Series."

Offered here is a 1989 World Series ring issued to a team employee. The 10-karat gold ring made by Jostens comes in size 12-1/2 (40 g) and is a gorgeous specimen made with real diamonds just like the players receive. The face has a large diamond atop a Kelly green stone surrounded by 20 smaller round-cut diamonds. The perimeter reads “WORLD CHAMPS" and "OAKLAND ATHLETICS". The right shank displays the "1989 World Series Battle of the Bay" logo with the World Series trophy below. The left shank has the staffer's last name "CIENSCZYK" and the famous Athletics elephant holding the flag “WORLD SERIES CHAMPS” in his trunk. Stamped inside the band is "10K" and "JOSTENS". Presents in NM condition with a few dings on the shank perimeters.
