Gary Carter was a well-traveled catcher who spent 19 years in the major leagues and earned a World Series ring with the New York Mets in 1986. In fact, it was Carter’s single to left field with two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Mets trailing, 5-3, in Game 6 of the Fall Classic that would eventually propel the Mets to victory. This lot includes a game-used and signed Rawlings Adirondack “Big Stick” Gary Carter professional model (# 113A GC) bat that was used in the 1988 NLCS. In fact, it has NLCS branded into the barrel of the bat right next to Carter’s branded name. The bat shows extensive evidence of game use with contact marks throughout the barrel and a noticeable coating of pine tar on the handle. Carter has autographed the barrel of the bat and added the following inscription: “1988 NLCS.” Carter’s uniform number (8) is on the knob in black marker. The Mets’ backstop batted .222 for the series, collecting six hits and knocking in four runs. The bat is 35” long and weighs 32 ounces.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sport Museum.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
