The Arkansas Derby is an American flat Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds held annually in April at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. In the 1985 running of the dirt race, Tank’s Prospect, ridden by Gary Stevens, won the race with a winning time of 1:48.40 over a one-mile-and-one-eighth course. Racing at age three that year, Tank's Prospect won the El Camino Real Derby and Arkansas Derby before running seventh in the Kentucky Derby. This lot features the gold-washed sterling silver winner’s trophy that was awarded to the team of Tank’s Prospect.

Standing 16.5 inches tall, the two-handled trophy includes a raised horseshoe shape on the front with the words “OAKLAWN ARKANSAS DERBY 1985” engraved on it. The top of the trophy features a small horse and jockey that measures three inches tall and three inches wide. It rests on top of a separate, two-tiered, four-inch-tall black wooden base that includes a gold plaque that's been engraved with the following text: "TANK'S PROSPECT 'The Arkansas Derby' Grade I April 20, 1985 - Oaklawn $500,000 Added 1-1/8 Mile - 1.48.2 Gary Stevens." D. Wayne Lucas was the horse’s trainer and San Diego businessman Eugene V. Klein was the owner. Altogether it weighs 7.6 pounds (1,600 grams for the sterling silver trophy alone).

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
