UPDATE: Provenance: These shoes were given by Karl Malone to the Judge Cafe in Salt Lake City, Utah. Malone was a regular at the café and ate there often after Utah Jazz workout sessions. In fact, Malone was interviewed at the Judge Café for an April 27th, 1992 Sports Illustrated article. Here’s an excerpt from the article, “’I eat for free in here,’ says Malone proudly. ‘Did some advertising for the Judge my rookie year and made a deal with 'em.’'' The deal was that Malone gave them these rookie shoes in exchange for free food in perpetuity.

NBA Hall of Famer Karl Malone was the hard-charging power forward of the Utah Jazz from 1985 to 2003 before closing out his career with the L.A. Lakers in 2004. This lot includes an autographed and inscribed pair of Malone’s game-worn Etonic purple-and-white shoes from his rookie season (1985-86). The shoes show ample wear and tear from a hotly contested season in which Malone averaged 19.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. The shoes have been signed and inscribed by Malone in blue ink: “To the Judge #32 Karl ‘Mailman’ Malone Best Wishes” (left shoe) and “Best Food in Town” (right shoe). These are the same shoes that he is wearing on his 1986 Fleer Rookie Card (68 of 132). Original purple shoelaces are still intact!

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
