He is referred to by many as the best Yankee player to have never played in a World Series. 1985 American League Most Valuable Player, 6 time All Star, winner of 9 Gold Gloves, lifetime .307 AVG, .358 OBP, and .471 SLG. Recurring back problems bothered him throughout much of his career and led to his early retirement at age 34. Mattingly is currently in his 2nd season as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
