The Phillies picked up the Hall of Fame bat of Tony Perez for only a single season in 1983, but it may have included some of that positive vibe from a man who played in six NLCS and five World Series. This was Perez's final trip to the Fall Classic; he would return to Cincinnati the following year for a three-season swan song on a 23-year career that included 379 home runs, a whopping 1,652 RBI's and a .279 lifetime average. This powder-blue jersey bears witness to all that greatness, showing ample game use and a grand presentation from the sparkling Phillie burgundy-and-white stitched letters and his No. 24, along with the distinctive Phillie "P" on the front left breast. All those elements show barely the slightest whisper of fraying of the stitching or any loss of color intensity; the shirt has a "Perez" embroidered tag chain stitched in the collar and the appropriate Wilson Size 44 tagging on the lower front, plus the "83 2" smaller blue tag beneath it. The distinctive Phillies Centennial logo patch appears on the left sleeve in the same sterling condition. All elements of the jersey are original and unaltered save for the "Perez" nameplate on back. There is evidence that a larger nameplate was at one time aaffixed to the back, indicating that the jersey was issued to another player (post-Perez) and the Perez nameplate was later restored.
