Who could ever forget "The Slam"? When NC State capped off its Cinderella season with one of the most exciting buzzer-beaters in hoops history? When Lorenzo Charles won it all for the underdog Wolfpack by alley-ooping Derek Whittenburg's 30-foot airball as the clock expired? When the great Jim Valvano raced around the court in a frenzy not knowing where to turn and who to hug first? When Clyde Drexler, Akeem Olajuwon and the rest of their vanquished Phi Slama Jama teammates stood shell-shocked as they watched Valvano's boys perform the time-honored tradition of cutting down the net?

Featured here a scarce and highly sought-after 1983 NCAA Championship ring awarded to the Wolfpack's top assistant coach, Tom Abatemarco, commemorating that pinnacle event in the annals of March Madness. The size 11.5 ring (weighing 35 g) is crowned with a CZ set atop a red stone embossed with "NC STATE." Raised lettering around the perimeter reads, "NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS 1983." Engraved inside the band are "JOSTENS 10K" and "Tom Abatemarco." The ring exhibits moderate wear and presents in terrific condition overall. It should be noted that we sold the same style ring issued to Lorenzo Charles for $66,000 in 2014.

At age 73 Tom Abatemarco is still coaching, currently serving as Rick Pitino's top assistant at Iona in the MAAC conference. After his 4-year stint under Valvano at NC State, he became a D-I head coach at Lamar, Drake and Sacramento State.  He has also spent time as a professional assistant in the WNBA and NBA Developmental League.

Ring comes with a signed LOA from Abatemarco himself.
