Baseball Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan won back-to-back World Series titles with the Cincinnati Reds in 1975 and ’76. In the latter Fall Classic, in fact, he was named the World Series MVP. Toward the end of his 22-year career, he played for four different teams over a five-year span including the San Francisco Giants in 1981 and ’82. This lot features Morgan’s game worn and autographed 1981 San Francisco Giants home jersey, a season in which he collected 74 hits, 66 walks and drove in 31 runs.
The offered white polyester V-Neck pullover jersey reads “Giants” in black on orange script tackle twill positioned just above his uniform number “8,” which is in similar tackle twill fashion. On the bottom left tail, next to the inseam, is a separate, sewn-on cloth identifier that includes “8” (his uniform number) and “81” (the season). The inside rear collar includes the proper Wilson manufacturer’s tag (size “44”), complete with washing instructions. The collar and sleeves all sport the Giants’ trademark orange, white and black piping. Morgan has signed the front of the jersey in black medium point marker, which shows some slight bleeding into the jersey. The back of the jersey includes his last name “MORGAN” arched across the shoulder blades in black tackle twill outlined in orange that’s been sewn onto a separate, sewn-on white nameplate. His uniform number “8” appears centered underneath his name in similar tackle twill fashion. Jersey shows evident wear with puckering and fraying of the numbers and letters.
