Terry Cummings was the Clippers first-round draft pick in 1982, and the DePaul star responded by winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. His 23.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game his rookie year turned out to be his career best. Cummings had an 18 year career in the NBA, retiring in 2000, just shy of the 20,000 career points milestone.

Cummings’ rookie season blue mesh road jersey has “SAN DIEGO” across the chest above his number “34” in white and orange appliqué. A size 48 Russell Athletic label is sewn in the lower left front tail and the neck and arm openings are trimmed with orange and white ribbing. The back has “Cummings” arched above his number “34” in white and orange appliqué. The faint outline of a removed “30” can be seen behind the “34” on both the front and back of the jersey.

The matching blue mesh shorts have nautical signal flags down each side that spell “C-L-I-P-P-E-R-S” and Russell Athletic size 34 hang tags in the waistband. A number “20” has been written and crossed out on one tag and another tag has the number “24”. The shorts retain their drawstring. Both uniform pieces show moderate wear with some cracking and fading to the appliqué graphics.

Three Getty images (481172574, 481172576 and 481172556) from a circa 1982 game against the Washington Bullets provide what appear to be conclusive photo-matches based on the visible number change (#30 to #34) characteristics. We have printed these out and included them with the uniform.

Includes a letter of provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
