Presented here is one of only four examples of Ozzie Smith’s 1979 Topps rookie card graded GEM MINT 10 by PSA among more than 4,666 submissions to date. These numbers bear out this cards status as a true condition rarity, though it’s certainly not due to short supplies of 1979 Topps. Rather, the explanation lies primarily in the placement of Ozzie's card on Topps misaligned production sheet, resulting in the vast majority of cards being off-center. In fact, the only way to get a well-centered example is for nearly every other card on the sheet to be cut off-center. Needless to say, this cards improbable perfect centering is it’s most readily apparent attribute, but is just the start of a totally perfect package. The colors, gloss and pristine edges and corners are equally tremendous, giving this card as much eye appeal as can be delivered. Outstanding, undeniable GEM MINT condition.

Known as “The Wizard of Oz”, Ozzie Smith combined athletic ability with acrobatic skill to become one of the game's great defensive shortstops. In 19 seasons with the Padres and Cardinals, the 13-time Gold Glove Award winner set Major League shortstop records for assists, double plays and total chances. He developed into an offensive weapon, finishing with over 2,400 hits and 500 stolen bases.
