The 1978 Oklahoma Sooners football posted an 11–1 overall record and a 6–1 Big 8 Conference record to earn a share of the conference title under head coach Barry Switzer. In their subsequent Orange Bowl battle on January 1, 1979, versus the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Sooners prevailed 31-24. This lot features a 1978 Orange Bowl Classic 10K gold ring that was issued to linebacker-turned-defensive end Mike Berry, who donned uniform number 44.

The size 10 ½ ring, which weighs 22 ounces, reads “ORANGE BOWL CLASSIC” in raised lettering around the face and sports a large real diamond embedded inside an orange stone. One shank reads “OKLAHOMA” with an engraved football helmet with “44” on the side and “1978” at the bottom. The other shank shows an orange bowl filled with oranges with a quarterback figure standing on top of it ready to launch a pass with a background design consisting of the Miami Orange Bowl Stadium. The inside band is engraved “10K” and includes the initials “MB.”
