In 1978, the New York Yankees, managed by Billy Martin, Dick Howser and Bob Lemon, won the franchise’s 22nd World Series championship – and second consecutive title – by beating the N.L. Champion Los Angeles Dodgers in six games. In fact, it was a mirror ending to the previous season’s outcome as they won it in six games. What was different this time around was the fact that the Yankees appeared out of the running for the A.L. East division title by the All-Star Game as they found themselves 14.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox. Incredibly they caught Boston on the final day of the season to force a one-game playoff, which they won, 5-4, at Fenway Park. Bucky (friggin’) Dent became the Bronx Bomber’s unlikely hero that day after he hit a three-run, go-ahead homer in the top half of the seventh inning. They went on to defeat the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS before advancing to play the Dodgers, again.

This lot features a beautifully crafted 1978 New York Yankees World Champions 14K Gold pendant that boasts a large diamond at the center of a baseball diamond set atop a beautiful blue stone. Surrounding the stone are 21 smaller diamonds and the words "YANKEES 1978 WORLD CHAMPIONS" in raised gold lettering. Stamped on back of the pendant is "LGB" and "14K". The pendant measures 7/8" wide. A remarkable treasure from yet another unforgettable season turned in by the Yankees.
