Beautiful 1978 Jim Gilliam Los Angeles Dodgers game worn road coaches jersey. "W. A. Goodman & Sons Size 44" and "Set 1 '78" tags sewn into collar. Blue "Dodgers" trimmed in white along with large red "19" sewn on front. Large blue "19" trimmed in white on back. Name "Gilliam" has been removed from the top of back but the outline of all the letters is still very easily readable. Jersey displays moderate use. Gilliam was a life long Dodger. In 1953, after 2 fine years with Montreal, he came to Brooklyn, forced Jackie Robinson off 2nd base, and was named the National League Rookie of the Year. He remained one of the most popular Dodger players until his retirement after the 1966 season. Jim stayed with the Dodgers, as a coach from 1967 though his untimely death right after the close of the 1978 season. Two days after his death, right before Game 1 of the 1978 World Series, the Dodgers retired his uniform number 19. His is the only number retired by the Dodgers of a player not in the Hall of Fame.
