Presented here is a classic gamer from Hall of Famer, Jamaal Wilkes,
who played on two NCAA Championship teams at UCLA in the
closing years of the John Wooden era and went on to win four NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers . "Silk" parlayed his silky-smooth
style at small forward into NBA career averages of 17.7 points and 6.2
assists.
Boasting the perfect A10 rating from MEARS, this 1977-78 Lakers
(pre-Showtime era) home gold mesh and knit jersey was worn by Wilkes in his very first
season in L.A. after spending his first four years with Golden State. The appropriate "Tiernan of Glendale, Calif." tagging
(slightly faded) appears on the left front tail, and "LAKERS" adorns the front of the shirt in purple and white tackle twill. Wilkes' No. 52
appears front and back in white-on-purple shadowed tackle twill, with his name
across the back in purple-on-white tackle twill sewn directly to the
shirt. In 1978-79 the Lakers switched to purple-on-white tackle twill
jersey numbers so this was the last season this style was used. The shirt has purple and white elastic trim on the
collar and yokes. It shows
obvious wear, with puckering and fraying of the tackle twill elements on his front and back numbers. Simply a flawless late 70's Lakers gamer from one of the smoothest to ever wear the purple and gold.
Letter from MEARS with perfect A10 grade.
