On October 21 1975 the stage was set for one of the most dramatic home runs in major league baseball history. Sparky Anderson's "Big Red Machine" steamrolled the National League West by 20 games swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Championship series and readied themselves to meet the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. The Sox created a bit of drama themselves with a sweep of their own when they ended the Oakland A's dominating three year reign. The Reds and Sox split the first four games of the World Series and the action shifted from Cincinnati to Fenway Park. Game Six was postponed for 72 tense hours as a cold drenching rain poured. The result? Perhaps the greatest single post season game of all time. Boston charged to an early 3 to 0 lead on Fred Lynn's shot in the right field seats. The aging but wonderfully productive Boston hurler Luis Tiant held the Reds formidable bats in check for 4 tense innings. Then things tilted the Reds way in the 5th beginning with Ken Griffey's triple and then with dazzling speed the Red's proved why they were called a "Machine". By the end of the 8th inning they led Boston 6 to 3. The Fenway faithful were crestfallen. Then in the bottom of the 8th a seemingly overmatched Bernie Carbo smacked a homer and when the dust cleared the game was tied heading into the ninth inning. The contest remained tied for three scoreless innings and then Carlton Fisk Boston's tough catcher went to the plate in the bottom of the 12th. As the nation watched Fisk fouled off a couple then launched perhaps the most exciting home run in World Series history. Who can forget the big man jumping up and down and then willing the batted ball just to the right of the left field pole over the green monster? The Boston Red Sox won the game 7 to 6 and Fenway went ballistic. Veteran umpire Satch Davidson had the best seat in the house for this spectacular game for he was the home plate umpire. We are proud to present Davidson's "official" line up cards for the Red Sox and Red Legs signed by each team's manager. The card contains each and every name hand scripted and placed in their correct order. For the Reds we see Pete Rose leading off the batting order with the other cogs in the "Big Red Machine" following suit namely Ken Griffey Joe Morgan Johnny Bench and Tony Perez. The Boston Red Sox "official batting order" is remarkable as well as it shows Bernie Carbo being substituted for Luis Tiant and of course Carlton Fisk anchoring the team in the clean-up spot. A monumental piece of Boston baseball history. The cards come with a letter from the umpire's widow certifying their authenticity.
