The 1974 New York Yankees seemed to be headed in the right direction under new manager Bill Virdon after finishing with a record of 89-73, just two games behind the AL East Champion Baltimore Orioles. They played at Shea Stadium that season as Old Yankee Stadium underwent major renovation. Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford were both inducted into the Hall of Fame that year.
This Wilson "NEW YORK YANKEES" branded ball (EX/EM shape) has 16 authentic signatures from the '74 squad including owner George Steinbrenner, (7-8/10 blue), Thurman Munson (5-6/10 black), Graig Nettles, Mel Stottlemyre (SS), Roy White, Dobson, Clarke, Mason, Medich, Gene Michael, Pagan, Sudakis, Tidrow, Upshaw, Woodson and Wright. The autographs of Murcer, Virdon, Lyle and Piniella have been deemed Clubhouse. The inscription, “1974/#132” on the label is written in an unknown hand.
