The 1972 New York Yankees season marked the 70th season for the Yankees in New York, and the 72nd season overall. The team finished with a record of 79-76, finishing 6½ games behind the Detroit Tigers. This lot includes a Wilson “All-Star” branded baseball signed in black ink by 20 members of the ‘72 Yankees squad. Across the sweet spot can be found three notable signatures from that year’s team: pitchers Mel Stottlemyre and Fritz Peterson and center fielder Bobby Murcer. Other notable signatures in the ball include Thurman Munson, Sparky Lyle, Felipe Alou, Gene Michael, Ron Swoboda, Roy White and Mike Kekich. Some signatures have faded over time, but all are easily recognizable.
