“Pistol Pete” Maravich was one of the first sports stars to be a “rock star”, long before that terminology was used. Pete’s scoring accomplishments, ballhandling wizardry and flashy style were unique and groundbreaking in basketball and sports in general. His NCAA scoring records at LSU look like they will stand forever.
Fresh to the hobby, presented here is a colorful magazine page from Sports Illustrated during Pete's final season at LSU, a collection of four images of our hero in New York City for the NIT and exploring The Big Apple, signed in period black ballpoint in a sweet spot as "Pistol Pete." The floppy socks, the adidas Superstars, the hair, the handles are all captured here.
Any autograph from Maravich, who passed away in 1988 at the young age of 40, is treasured, but especially one signed back in the day. The page is authenticated and beautifully encapsulated by PSA/DNA. Wow!
