This lot features a pair of vintage 1970’s and ‘’80s warm-up jackets from
the University of Detroit Titans men’s basketball team, sporting the
school’s red, white and blue color scheme. The Titans have been a consistently strong mid-major program and made it to the Sweet 16 in 1977 under head coach Dick Vitale. Hall of Famer Spencer Haywood starred for the Titans in the late 60's.
The first polyester jacket
includes several pieces of embroidery and tackle twill lettering that
makes it very unique. The largely white button-down Rawlings polyester
jacket (size 42) includes proper tagging on the inside right front area
with washing instructions. The Titans’ team mascot appears holding a
yellow embroidered basketball on the front and then appears a second
time on the back of the jacket standing on a yellow tackle twill
basketball outlined in blue embroidery. The white jacket reads “detroit”
on the front in red tackle twill outlined in blue while the reverse
reads “titans” with the mascot serving as the letter “t.” The number
“12” appears on the lower left front area in blue tackle twill outlined
in red. Appearing on the inside rear of the red, white and blue collar
is the name “Ross Marks” in black marker. Blue and red tackle twill
stars run the length of both short sleeves.
The second button-down
polyester jacket, size 46, includes a Wilson manufacturer’s tag on the
inside rear collar. On the left font chest area is a large, sewn-on
“University of Detroit” emblem that utilizes the red, white and blue
theme. This differs from the first as it’s long-sleeved. Across the back
reads “DETROIT” in red tackle twill letters outlined in blue. Elastic
red, white and blue trim outline the collar, waistband and both wrists. Rare to find a pair of college basketball game-worn warm-up jackets from this era.
