Rico Carty was a longtime major leaguer who spent 15 season in the big leagues playing for six different teams. Platooning between left field, first base and batting in the American league as the designated hitter, Carty collected 1,677 career hits and batted a steady .299. This lot includes two special plaques commemorating milestone moments for Carty. The first is from 1970, while he was playing for the Atlanta Braves and batted a league-leading .366 to win the N.L. batting title. The wooden plaque (13.5” wide by 14” high) includes a pair silver plates, one being a portrait image of a smiling Carty and the other filled with the following text: “BRAVES 4—CLUB, Major League Hitter of the Year, 1970, RICO CARTY, Atlanta Braves, .366 BA, 25 Home Runs, 101 RBI’S, Major League Batting Champion.” The second item, also a wooden plaque, includes a centerpiece of a raised bust of Carty on a bronzed plate with silver outline that was awarded to him in 1976 while he was a member of the Cleveland Indians. The “1976 MAN OF THE YEAR” award was presented to Carty by the Cleveland Chapter Baseball Writers Association of America. The overall piece measures 12” wide by 15” high.
