Henry Finkel was a seven-foot center in the NBA from 1966 to 1975. Though he was selected by the L.A. Lakers in the 1966 NBA Draft, and played his entire rookie season in the City of Angels, Finkel is best remembered for his blue-collar efforts as a member of the Boston Celtics from 1969 until his retirement. In fact, backing up Hall of Famer Dave Cowens at center, Finkel reached basketball’s pinnacle in his next to last season when the Celtics won the 1974 NBA Championship.

This lot features Finkel’s game worn Boston Celtics road jersey that he donned during the 1970-71 campaign when he averaged 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. On the jersey’s left front tail is the proper “MUSINSKY’S and-Knit" manufacturer’s label adjacent to the “Sand-Knit” washing instructions tag that includes “size 44.” Across the front of the jersey reads the team name "CELTICS" in white tackle twill letters while his uniform number "29" appears on both the front and back of the jersey, also in white tackle twill. The arms and collar are sporting Boston’s iconic white and green elastic trim. Despite its age and evidence of excellent use, the jersey is in remarkable condition and only slight fraying of the numbers and letters. Because of his unyielding hustle out on the court, “Hank” Finkel became a fan favorite in Boston.
