Nice rookie card pairing of two basketball icons whose legendary careers and personas on and off the court left an indelible impact on the game. In fact, both were originally drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks and were slated to be teammates at one point. UCLA standout Alcindor was the number one overall pick in 1969 and led the Bucks to their one and NBA title in 1971. A year later UMass star Erving was selected by the Bucks with the 12th overall pick and was set to join Kareem and Oscar, except that a contract dispute involving the Atlanta Hawks and the ABA's Virginia Squires ultimately made Dr. J a Squire.

Both cards have great eye appeal. The '69 Topps #25 Alcindor rookie looks better than its PSA EX 5 grade, showing slightly rounded corners and off-centering (bottom-to-top). The Doctor's 1972 Topps #195 rookie, graded SGC 84 NM 7, is essentially mint, save for its off-centered back (right-to-left).

1969 TOPPS #25 LEW ALCINDOR (PSA EX 5) AND 1972 TOPPS #195 JULIUS ERVING (SGC 84 NM 7) PAIR OF ROOKIE CARDS
