The 1968 Ohio State Buckeyes football team was one of the strongest in school history, fielding 11 All Americans and six first-round NFL draft picks. Under the guidance of head coach Woody Hayes, the team went undefeated in the regular season to set up a duel with the University of Southern California in the Rose Bowl for the national title. The Buckeyes had a come-from-behind victory over the Trojans in the national championship game, securing the title with a 27-16 win.

Presented is a 10K gold ring given to guard David Cheney commemorating that title. On the face, a gold “OHIO” sits atop a ruby red stone encircled by the words “NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.” One shank features a banner with “OHIO STATE” and a large raised image of Ohio Stadium. The other shank has “1968” and a raised image of a football. The inside is stamped “JENKINS 10K” (J. Jenkins Sons Co.) and “DAVID CHENEY.” The ring size is 12 and it weighs 38 grams.
