The world-renowned Green Bay Packers were the winners of the first two Super Bowls including the very first AFL-NFL Championship Game that was played prior to the actual coining of the name "Super Bowl", which came along three years later. On January 15, 1967, playing before a crowd of 61,946 screaming fans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the NFL Champion Packers – led by head coach Vince Lombardi – blasted the AFL Champion Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10. The 1966 Packers were a force to be reckoned with as AFL-NFL Championship Game MVP Bart Starr led Green Bay to victory that day. This lot includes an official NFL-branded, mustard-colored leather football christened with the words: "GREEN BAY PACKERS WORLD CHAMPIONS 1966." The ball has been signed in black ink by 51 different team members from the '66 campaign including both Starr and Lombardi. Other notable signatures on the football include Jerry Kramer, Ray Nitschke (who apparently signed the football twice), Jerry Krause, Willie Davis, Willie Wood, Forrest Gregg, Herb Adderley, Don Chandler, Jim Grabowski, Claudis James, Steve Wright, Bob Jeter and Max McGee, the latter who scored the game's very first touchdown on a 37-yard pass play from Starr. The football comes in Near Mint condition with just the slightest of discoloration on top. All signatures are clear and legible, averaging a 7-8/10. What an outstanding piece of sports history for any gridiron fan!
Includes Letter of Provenance from the consignor explaining how the ball was originally procured through his association with Packers running back Jim Grabowski.
Includes Full LOA from PSA (V12140).
