The 1962 USC Trojans football team closed out a perfect season by beating Notre Dame 25-0 at home on Dec. 1 to finish with a 10-0 record. The final Associated Press (AP) poll, which determined the unofficial national championship, was released on December 3. USC finished first, followed by Wisconsin, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama. In the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, head coach John McKay led USC to a 42-37 victory over second-ranked Wisconsin. This is the 1962 USC Trojans Football National Championship Award Plaque presented to Coach McKay from the Trojan Football Alumni Club. The wooden plaque, which measures 10” wide by 12” high, includes specially engraved brass plaque that sits atop the wood that reads, in part: “NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, University of Southern California Football Team, 1962, Congratulations to John McKay and Staff, Mel Hein, Dave Levy, Marv Goux, Joe Margucci, Ray George, Mike Giddings, Charlie Hall, Mickey Artenian.”
