Tough signed 1962 Topps card of "Sad Sam" Jones, major league hurler from 1951 thru 1964. Jones won 21 games in 1951 with the Giants and lead the National League in Strikeouts 3 times - 1955, 1956, and 1958. In 1952, while playing for the Indians, he teamed up with aged Negro League veteran catcher Quincey Trouppe, to form the first black battery in American League history. Most of his career was spent in the National League with the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Francisco Giants. Jones passed away in November of 1971 and is one of the more difficult autographs in the 1962 Topps set to obtain as he passed away at the relatively young age of 45. The card has been graded EX PSA 6 condition. The vintage blue ink signature rates a very strong 9/10.
