Juan Marichal is all smiles on the front of his rookie card with good reason – he’s about to embark on a career that would take him to the Hall of Fame and inspire countless boys from his native Dominican Republic to follow in his path and become major leaguers. This example is among the very best in the hobby, a pack-fresh Gem Mint 10. The 1961 Topps issue is notoriously difficult to find with perfect centering, but this card has no such problems. Its sharp color and pristine condition elevate this Marichal rookie to the very height of perfection. PSA’s population report shows just 6 graded Gem Mint 10, with the most recent sale in July of 2021 for $49,000.

Juan Marichal won 13 games for the Giants in ’61, followed by 18 the next year and then 25 in 1963. The 10-time All-Star would win more games than any other pitcher in the decade of the 1960s, eclipsing even Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson. He was the first Dominican-born player elected to the Hall of Fame. His 1961 Topps rookie card is essential for any advanced collection, and this eye-popping example has been encapsulated and graded a Gem Mint 10 by PSA.

Estimate: $50,000+
