The M&M boys are captured in their glorious 1961 season in this perfectly composed Type I photo by renowned New York photographer Louis Requena. During that 1961 season Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle battled it out to see who would break Babe Ruth’s single-season home run record. The pair kept it close until Mantle was sidelined by injury. Maris plugged along, finally hitting the magic number 61 on the last game of the season. Requena’s dual portrait of the two sluggers is perfect in every aspect – from the confident looks of Mantle and Maris down to the sweeping background of old Yankee Stadium. The original photo measures 7-1/2” x 8-1/2” and has light even toning throughout. The reverse bears the stamp of photographer Louis Requena as well as several pencil notations. The photograph has been encapsulated and graded Type I by PSA/DNA.
