The 1961-62 Fleer Basketball set is known for including the first mainstream basketball cards of many of basketball all-time greats such as Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West. The 1961-62 set was the only major basketball product produced by Fleer until their second ground-breaking release 25 years later in 1986-87. The 1961-62 Fleer set featured cards of 44 different players and consisted of 66 cards in total, thus cards 44-66 were action shots of players pictured elsewhere in the set.

The key rookie cards for this set include: #3 Elgin Baylor, #8 Wilt Chamberlain, #16 Hal Greer, #23 Sam Jones, #36 Oscar Robertson and #44 Lenny Wilkins [sic]. Other top cards in the set are #10 Bob Cousy, #19 Tom Heinsohn, #22 KC Jones, #28 Clyde Lovellette, #34 Bob Pettit, #38 Bill Russell, #39 Dolph Schayes and #43 Jerry West.

Featured here is an original unopened 1961-62 Fleer Basketball wax box full of 24 total packs in superb condition. The box was reportedly purchased from Mark Murphy in the 1990’s as part of a case break and has been kept by our source since that time. The box has been fully authenticated and sealed by BBCE. Unopened material of this quality and vintage is gradually becoming extinct in the hobby, with the gap between supply and demand ever increasing.
