The combination of Bob Gibson's intimidating demeanor, competitive nature and ferocious fastball made him one of the most dominating pitchers of his era. He seemed to be at his best when the stakes were highest. His stellar 1964, 1967 and 1968 World Series performances made him the toughest pitcher in the Fall Classic since Whitey Ford, and earned him induction into the Hall of Fame in 1981. Perhaps the designers at Topps sought to downplay Gibson’s menacing countenance by choosing a disarming pink background and smiling portrait for his debut card. One of only three examples graded at this tier by PSA among 2,151 submissions, this dazzling GEM MINT PSA 10 1959 Topps Rookie card of the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer is awe-inspiring. Every aspect of this pack fresh looking card spells perfection. One of the most desirable cards in the high number run, it showcases unimprovable corners, color and image quality. It is hard to believe that either of the other two "10's" out there could be better than this. Absolute GEM MINT perfection.
