Very evenly matched EM+/NM 1954 Topps Baseball complete set with the vast majority of cards falling within the EX-MT to NM-MT range. The set was originally assembled by our consignor during the 1970's and is completely fresh to the hobby. We sent nine key cards to PSA for grading including the coveted Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks and Al Kaline rookies. They came back: #1 Ted Williams (HOF) PSA NM 7, #10 J.Robinson (HOF) PSA EX-MT 6 (condition same as T.Williams in our opinion), #50 Berra PSA EX 5, #90 Mays (HOF) PSA EX 5, #94 Banks (HOF)(RC) PSA VG-EX 4 (looks EX), #128 Aaron PSA EX-MT+ 6.5, #132 Lasorda (HOF)(RC) PSA EX-MT 6, #201 Kaline PSA NM 7, and #250 T.Williams (HOF) PSA EX-MT 6 (MC) (miscut on back only). Key ungraded cards include #13 Martin EX-MT, #17 Rizzuto (HOF) EM/NM, #20 Spahn (HOF) NM, #30 Ed Mathews (HOF) EX-MT, #32 Snider (HOF) NM, #37 Ford (HOF) EM/NM, #102 Hodges NM, #166 Podres EM/NM, and #239 Skowron (RC) which appears NM from front but has slight diagonal wrinkle at top back corner.
Over $7500 in SMR value for the 9 graded cards alone. The consignor may be the victim of the current market's relatively harsh grading standards, but the beauty and freshness of this set cannot be overstated.
