This invitation was issued in 1951 for the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the National League held at the Broadway-Central Hotel in New York City. The quality of the invitation suggests it must have been a grand affair, a judgment supported by the all-time great players that were on hand to autograph this invitation. The 12 signatures (11 HOFers) that adorn the perimeter of the 6” by 8” invitation include Ty Cobb, Fred Clarke, Tris Speaker, Mickey Cochrane, Hugh Duffy, Rabbit Maranville, Charlie “Kid” Nichols, Rogers Hornsby, Ed Walsh, Cy Young, Red Rolfe and Charlie Gehringer. Neatly rendered signatures average 8-9 out of 10. The invitation itself remains in EX-EX/MT condition with a vertical fold line. Likely issued and utilized by Cy Jones himself, the back of the invitation features notes from the evening, including an address for Kid Nichols, and other notes that suggest Cy may have been laying groundwork for new acquisitions for his collection.
