The idea for the first NBA All-Star Game came about as a way to restore the fan’s faith in the game after recent college basketball point shaving scandals. The first game, held at the Boston Garden, drew three times the average game attendance, exceeding all expectations. Afterwards it was unanimously agreed that the all-star game would be an annual event. This archive contains the official programs for each of the first 30 NBA All-Star Games, from 1951 to 1980. With the exception of the slightly creased and back-damaged 1951 program and 1952 program with a spread separated from the binding, all the others in this collection are in great condition. In addition, a game ticket is included with the 1976 program. Every premier player in the game is represented in this group, and thumbing through this archive you can trace the evolution of the All-Star Game from a mere exhibition game to a week-long event watched by millions of fans.
