Presented here is a wonderful ticket and program pairing from the 1950 U.S. Open Golf Championship. One year after a near fatal car accident, the great Ben Hogan won his second of four career U.S. Opens at the June 8-10 event held at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, PA. Hogan's memorable 1-iron shot on the 72nd hole got him into an 18-hole playoff on Monday (June 11) with Lloyd Mangrum and George Fazio.
The full ticket (4.75" at longest) is to the playoff round where Hogan shot a 69 to claim the victory. It comes in NM-MT condition with the stub intact and no condition issues that bear mentioning. The back is marked in blue ballpoint with the three playoff participants and their respective scores. One, if not, the finest examples known. The accompanying 5.5" x 7.75" program comes in excellent condition with all 144 pages intact and nothing written inside from what we can tell. As the golden cover indicates, this was the tournament's 50th golden anniversary.
